Welcome
to North's e-Learning Support Center The online courses at North have achieved one of the highest completion rates (82%) in the state relative to other community colleges (which average 74%). We believe this relative success is because of (1) the close communication options built into North's online courses, (2) the dedication of instructors in working with their students and especially in keeping close contact with students, (3) the direct supervisory roles of divisions to maintain quality in the learning environment, and (4) the efforts made by the Distance Learning Office staff to answer questions and overcome challenges students have with the technology and logistics involved in online learning. This collaboration works best if we establish a relationship with faculty prior to student enrollment and participation in the course. Otherwise, we stumble to get on the same page. It would help us tremendously if you would please choose the Update What We Know About You link above and submit your information to our office. Then contact us to set up a time for a brief in-person conversation and introduction to the various pieces of the process from our end of things. It would help us ultimately to support you in the best ways possible. The Basic Information and Logistics tab above gives you helpful information such as how to sign in overloads or validate a student's financial aid form. Use this site a reference for answering your questions regarding how to navigate the college systems as a Distance Learning faculty. Resources & Guidelines for Online Teaching at North tab gives step by step tutorials on how to use online tools of technology such as WebCT, Frontpage and Photoshop Elements. Additional information found at this site includes virtual classroom design templates, workshop calendar, copyright info, and examples of the various technologies in use. Orientation to Courseware Features provides you and your students with technical support inforfmation in case you are experiencing technical difficulties with the software that you are using. If possible, please contact Carol Howe (at 527-3738) or email us at distance@sccd.ctc.edu to work out a time to say hello. |
